A litigation investment that pursued a damages claim against the Government of Alberta, Canada, for the constructive taking of freehold mineral rights and coal leases. Now closed, the Fund returned investors 4 to 5 times money invested.
The Montem Fund was established in April 2024 to provide investors with access to an investment in Montem Resources Alberta Operations Limited. Montem had a claim for damages against the government of Alberta, Canada to recover damages arising from the constructive taking of Montem's freehold mineral rights and coal leases, as well as claims for damages in private nuisance and unjust enrichment.
Wahl Citadel raised over $6 million in the Wahl Citadel Montem Fund and advanced funds to Montem to acquire redeemable preferred shares in Montem. Montem used the monies advanced to fund the claim against the government of Alberta, Canada.
Montem and the government of Alberta reached a settlement agreement in June 2025, with the settlement sum paid in November 2025. Investors have returns of 4 times money invested for the later investors and 5 times money invested for the earlier investors.
